 UMM Testimonials

I have joined a small men’s breakfast meeting.  I never have been close to other men and I never felt like I could relate to other men as a whole.  I have never been able to be honest with myself and especially around other men.  I have always felt that I had to put on an image to other men and not be open and forthcoming with my true inner feelings.  That always seemed easier for women to do and something that I was always jealous of women.  But through this breakfast meeting I feel that I can be open with these men to discuss my issues and feeling from my heart and not feel judged or persecuted.  Maybe being raised in a family with a strong father figure did not allow me to open up but if we can’t open up to other men that have had similar issues and thoughts and receive advice and direction from their experiences then we are missing out on an opportunity to help ourselves.  I think that men as a whole have the power to do so much for this world and need to take a lesson from the women.  I don’t mean to say that we sit around and hold hands, hug and cry together because we are all so “MANLY” but maybe if we did we might become better and stronger MEN.

We all have it in us to be the answer to someone’s prayer.

That is a simple statement that has only taken me 59 years to understand. Since joining the OUMC, and participating in the UMM activities, I have been given the opportunity to grow in my personal Faith walk. I have also received many Blessings. One of the most amazing Blessings I have received is working with the “Honey-Do-Crew”. I think this is such a wonderful Ministry because we are helping each other the way Jesus told us to. I have witnessed gifts of prayer, caring, material, time, advice, and money, to name just a few. All of the work we have done has been different in size and type, but has been done with willing hands, by Christian Brothers, who have managed to have a good time doing it.

Every once in a while I get to help do something for someone who might not be able to have it otherwise. And that is when I feel especially good inside, like I might be the answer to someone’s prayer. I know that whoever I am helping has probably been praying for help, and God has seen fit to send me. I don’t know how many times God has called me through my 59 years, or how many times I didn’t hear Him. But I can promise you this, I’ll sure be paying more attention from now on.

I began attending the UMM two years ago in order to participate in the many activities such as attending the Lookouts baseball game and the float trip down the Ocoee River.  I also learned of the opportunities to provide service to folks in the church and community through the Honey-Do-Crew.  I certainly enjoy the great food at the monthly breakfasts.  Occasionally we have guest speakers during our meetings.  However, the greatest benefit of the UMM is the chance to get to know the men of the church better and make some close friends.  The UMM is a great group who just want to serve the Lord and support the ministries of the church.

I grew up not having a close relationship with my Father. It was a judgmental relationship, one that I did not measure up to when I was young. I was always told that I couldn’t do anything right. When I really did mess up I was really put down. It has been very difficult for me to take lead roles in anything that I was participating in. When I do have failures my confidence level goes way, way, way down.

My relationship with my Heavenly Father has been very difficult, since I have to overcome this emotional obstacle of my earthly father. I know that he believes in me and that helps me to do the things I don’t have confidence in. In my eyes whatever I do I am not good enough. But I have to keep telling myself THIS: IN HIM I CAN DO ALL THINGS!

I was hesitant to take the Presidency of the Umm. Even though some have told me I have done a good job, I think that it could have been better. I must admit that I could not have done it without help from many good and GODLY MEN; I hope you know who you are! Thanks so much for the great group of guys that we have in the UMM. The UMM has help me build good relationships with other men, otherwise I might not have any male companions. By the way my relationship with my earthly father became better because he became saved by GOD’S GRACE.  I STILL STRUGGLE, I COVET YOUR PRAYERS.
